The safari rides are the heart of Bali Safari and Marine Park in Gianyar β the largest wildlife park in Bali, home to more than 1,000 animals across 100+ species. Every ticket tier includes the classic tram journey, but the park offers several distinct safari formats, and choosing the right one changes the experience completely. This guide breaks down each option so you can match the safari to your group, budget, and schedule; when you're ready, our Bali Safari discount page has the current best price.
Safari Journey β the Classic Tram (Included)
The Safari Journey is a covered tram loop of roughly 30 minutes through three continental habitat zones. The Indonesian zone showcases Sumatran tigers, Komodo dragons, and babirusa; the Indian zone brings you past nilgai, blackbuck, and Himalayan bears; and the African savannah section is the highlight, with zebras, wildebeest, rhinos, and hippos grazing metres from the windows and lions surveying it all from their rock outcrops. The tram runs continuously all day and you can ride as many times as you like β morning loops tend to catch the animals at their most active.
4x4 Jeep Safari β Closer and Slower
The Jeep Safari swaps the tram for an open-sided, reinforced 4x4 that takes a slower route deeper into the predator enclosures, including a stop where lions often climb directly onto the vehicle's protective frame. Groups are small (usually four to six guests plus a ranger-guide who narrates the whole drive), photography is far easier without tram glass, and the pace lets you linger where the action is. It is a paid upgrade and slots book out on peak days, so reserve ahead.
Night Safari β the Park After Dark
On selected evenings the park reopens after sunset for the Night Safari, an open caged-tram ride through the same zones under floodlight and moonlight, when the big cats and hyenas are genuinely active rather than dozing in the heat. The evening includes keeper-guided feeding encounters, a fire dance performance, and optional BBQ dinner packages at the Tsavo Lion Restaurant, where a glass wall separates your table from the lion enclosure. If you have already done a daytime visit, this is the version worth returning for.
Beyond the Rides
Between safaris, the park runs a full show schedule β the Bali Agung theatre production, elephant and predator talks, and the aquarium in the marine section. Plan five to six hours for a full visit, or a relaxed three hours for the evening program. Combine your day with nearby Gianyar attractions like Bali Zoo or the Bali Bird Park β see our guide to places to visit near Bali Safari and Marine Park for a full-day route, and consider a private driver to link them without hassle.
