Scooter Rental Bali β Why It's the Best Way to Explore
For experienced riders, a scooter is the most liberating way to explore Bali. You can duck into villages that tour buses can't reach, park right in front of a temple, stop at a rice paddy for a photo, and cruise Canggu's beach roads at sunset without a care in the world. Fuel costs roughly $1β$2 for a full day of riding.
Most popular areas β Canggu, Seminyak, Kuta, Legian, Nusa Dua, Ubud town, and Jimbaran β have manageable traffic and smooth roads. The mountain routes (Kintamani, Bedugul, East Bali) are more challenging but extraordinarily scenic.

Riding Safely in Bali β Local Tips
- Always wear your helmet β it's Indonesian law and police checkpoints are common
- Carry your passport and your rental agreement when riding
- Avoid night riding in unfamiliar mountain areas β roads are unlit and narrow
- Watch for potholes, speed bumps (polisi tidur), and dogs crossing the road
- Petrol stations (SPBU) are everywhere in tourist areas; in rural areas, look for roadside petrol sellers in glass bottles
- Park inside marked areas β scooters parked illegally attract fines or get towed in Kuta/Seminyak
Frequently Asked Questions β Scooter Rental Bali
How much does it cost to rent a scooter in Bali?
A 125cc automatic scooter costs $5β$7 USD per day. A 150cc model (more powerful, better for hills) costs $7β$10/day. Weekly rates are approximately 25% cheaper than the daily rate.
Do I need a driving licence to rent a scooter in Bali?
An International Driving Permit (IDP) with a motorcycle endorsement is legally required. Rental shops may not check, but police checkpoints do. Without an IDP, you risk a fine or your scooter being confiscated. Get your IDP before arriving.

What happens if I get a puncture or the scooter breaks down?
WhatsApp us β we'll advise on the nearest repair shop (there are "tambal ban" puncture-repair shops on almost every street in Bali, costing $1β$2). For breakdowns, we'll arrange a replacement scooter if needed.
