Uluwatu occupies the tip of Bali's Bukit Peninsula — a limestone plateau dropping to the Indian Ocean on three sides. It's a world away from the bustle of Kuta and Seminyak just 40 minutes to the north. Every evening at approximately 18:00 (sunset), an open-air performance of the Kecak dance takes place at the temple grounds with the cliff and ocean as a backdrop. Around 50–100 bare-chested men form a circle, chanting "cak" rhythmically while telling the story of the Ramayana through movement and fire.
